Betting Guide – Changes to the bookmakers free bets offers
Boylesports last week became the latest bookmaker to slash the value of their free bets offer by getting rid of their £200 offer and replacing it with a £20 offer. Under the terms of the new offer you now have to bet between £10 and £20 and you will receive a free bet of the same value up to a maximum of £20.
In the few weeks previous we have already seen Skybet withdraw their free bets offer completely and Sportingbet reduce their amount from £100 to just £25. Skybet still offer a free bet on one notable website with whom they have an established link up partnership with but for affiliate sites the offer has simply been withdrawn, their reason was apparently to stay within their financial budget for the rest of the financial year enabling them to go into the new financial year in the best possible position – suggesting that maybe the recession has played a part in their decision.
Sportingbet replaced their £100 offer with a rather awkward looking £25 accumulator bet where your must have five qualifying bets which all must be placed at combined odds of evens (2.0) or better and have three selections included in the bet, the free bet is then awarded but you have to place the free bet in the same format as the qualifying bets.
Earlier in the year Betfred also took the decision to reduce their free bets offer from £100 down to £50 and William Hill now seem to be just offering regular incentives on upcoming individual sporting events rather than a fixed amount free bet.

On the flip side though Bet365 have upped their offer from £100 to £200, Betfair and Coral have both upped their offers from £10 to £25 while 888sport and VC Bet have maintained their £50 offers bucking the trend somewhat.
Its hard to know what the motives are for cutting these offers but maybe books have to balanced as punters are perhaps keeping their hard earned in their pockets while this current downturn continues meaning the bookmakers have to somehow find another way to maintain their profit margin, disposable income isn’t what it was and gambling would surely be one of the first activities you would cut back on if you are worried about paying your mortgage or losing your job – meaning less money for all those hard up bookmakers.
